New lawyer at Simmons & Simmons

Wui Seung Chong joins from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

International law firm Simmons & Simmons has hired Wui Seung Chong. Chong will be based in the firm's Hong Kong office and will work as a consultant in the corporate group.

Chong joins Simmons from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer where he was a senior associate, working mainly on M&A deals in China and with financial institution around the region. He also spent a number of years in the firm's Beijing office handling foreign direct investments into the Middle Kingdom. Deals he has worked on include Tokio Marine and Fire Insurance and Millea Asia's 24.9% strategic investment in Sino Life Insurance, a mainland PRC insurance company

While at Freshfields, Chong was also seconded over the ABN AMRO Rothschild where he worked in the equity capital markets division.

According to Chong he was attracted to Simmons & Simmons by its expanding corporate practice, which earlier this year hired Loretta Lau as a partner. Commenting on the hire Nick Norris, head of Simmons & Simmons's corporate group in Hong Kong says, "Seung's appointment further expands the well-established M&A and corporate finance capability of the firm's China offices, particularly for transactions in Hong Kong and China. Seung will be an invaluable asset to our corporate practice."
