BNP hires head of Southeast Asia corporate finance

The French bank picks a former Macquarie managing director to head its corporate finance business in Southeast Asia.
BNP Paribas yesterday announced the appointment of Johnson Tan as chief executive officer of BNP Paribas Capital (Singapore) as well as regional head of corporate finance for Southeast Asia. He will be based in Singapore and report to Christian De Chamace, CEO of corporate finance for Asia-Pacific.

Tan has 20 years of experience in investment banking, having worked in New York, Hong Kong and Singapore. Before joining BNP Paribas, he was at Macquarie as a managing director of corporate finance for Southeast Asia.

Although currently specialising in corporate finance, Tan has also worked in other banking areas such as derivatives and mergers and acquisitions.

ôWe are very glad to have brought Johnson on board who will be taking the lead in driving our corporate finance business in Southeast Asia,ö says De Chamace in a written comment. ôJohnson brings to the table spot-on experience and a strong track record in closing significant deals.ö

De Chamace goes on to say that BNP Paribas will be able to take its corporate finance business forward in the challenging market conditions of 2009.
