Bank of America promotes Ian Wong

The bank creates a new role for Wong to oversee its China business.
Bank of America has appointed Ian Wong as country executive for China to cater to the growth in business it is anticipating in the country. Wong was previously general manager of the bankÆs Shanghai branch.

In this newly created role, Wong will oversee the bank's offices in Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou. He will continue to be based in Shanghai and report to Frederick Chin, regional executive for Greater China and head of corporate and investment banking (MNC) in Asia.

ôSince 2004, Bank of America has achieved compounded growth of over 80% per year in China, with healthy returns on assets," says Wong. "Our staff strength has grown more than five times in the same period, and we will continue to invest in our people and our technology platform. By leveraging our global strength and local reach, we will continue to deliver winning solutions for our clients."

Wong became Shanghai branch general manager in late 2003, a role in which he also oversees corporate governance across the bankÆs business in China. Before he moved to Shanghai, Wong was based in Singapore, working with the US bank as Asia region business director and a member of the Asia leadership team.

ôThis is an exciting time for banking in China, with new opportunities emerging from continuing reform of the financial services industry,ö says Colm McCarthy, the bankÆs president in Asia. ôI am confident that, under IanÆs leadership, our growing team in China will continue to do what Bank of America does best û provide innovative, practical solutions and superior execution tailored to our clientsÆ changing needs.ö
