Barclays hires Sanjay Mathur from UBS

Mathur will assume a newly created role within the bank's Asia ex-Japan rates research team.
Barclays Capital has appointed Sanjay Mathur as director of its Asia ex-Japan rates research team, as the bank continues to expand and strengthen its research capacity in Asia. Mathur has joined this week from UBS in Singapore, where he was most recently an executive director of the regional economics team.

In this newly created role, Mathur will lead BarclaysÆ macro-economic research covering the Indian subcontinent, Malaysia and Singapore. Based in Singapore, he will report to Peter Redward, BarclaysÆ head of rates research and chief economist for Asia ex-Japan.

"Sanjay brings to Barclays Capital a wealth of experience as an economist. His deep knowledge of the Indian subcontinent, in particular, will enable us to further differentiate our products and client proposition," says Redward.

Mathur has been with UBS for the past 12 years. In his most recent position he covered primarily the same markets as he will focus on in his new role, namely India, Malaysia and Singapore. Prior to that he worked with Indian domestic rating agency Credit Analysis & Research in Mumbai. He also has experience within corporate finance.

ôSanjay's hire is an important step forward in the strengthening of our Asian macro-economic research platform, and follows the appointment last October of Peter Redward to lead that team. Both appointments reinforce our commitment to creating an analytically rigorous macro research effort that is valued by both our clients and the business,ö says Jon Scoffin, head of BarclayÆs Asian research.
