Jin, who will join from Barclays Capital Securities, will be accountable for the further expansion of CitigroupÆs franchise in Korea and will be responsible for legal, control, compliance, tax and regulatory issues within global markets. He will report directly to Robert Morse, Asia managing director and CEO of Citi's corporate and investment banking division.
Jin has 30 years experience in the industry covering areas including investment banking, sales, debt and equity capital markets. He has been with Barclays Capital, and its predecessor Barclays de Zoett Wedd, for the past 20 years, most recently as Seoul securities branch manager.
KG Lee, who is currently managing director and the head of Barclays' Korean investment banking division, will be internally promoted to replace Jin as Seoul branch manager, subject to approval by Korean regulatory bodies, a source said.
Citigroup global markets is part of CitigroupÆs broader global corporate and investment banking group which provides investment, private client and asset management services.
Claiming to be the first foreign bank with a presence in Korea in 1967, Citigroup acquired KorAm Bank and formed Citibank Korea in 2004. There are 4,100 employees and 238 consumer branches under the bankÆs Korean division, offering transactional banking, treasury and risk management instruments, loan syndication, capital markets expertise, as well as credit cards and wealth management services.
Separately, Barclays Capital appointed Joe Shin as its Korean country representative and bank branch manager in early March, responsible for the bankÆs entire business in the country. Shin has most recently worked for a Korean financial service advisory and investment firm and he has also been with Credit Suisse First Boston (now Credit Suisse) for 10 years, where he held various positions including managing director, Korea country manager and Seoul securities branch manager.
