Boekema moves to ABN in Hong Kong

The Dutch firm names a new head of its financial sponsor group for Asia.
ABN AMRO has given its financial sponsors division a boost, announcing the appointment of Sander Boekema to the team. From Hong Kong, Boekema will answer to the title of head of the financial sponsor group in Asia and report to Wieland Janssens, ABNÆs global head of financial sponsor group.

In this new role, he will be responsible for leading a team dedicated to covering business with global financial sponsors in the region. According to ABN, the move is in response to financial sponsors in Asia increasing their activities in the region as funds grow and buy-out opportunities become more apparent.

ôWeÆve seen tremendous growth in financial sponsors' business in Europe during the last five years and we expect to see similar growth momentum in Asia in the coming years,ö says Boekema. ôABN AMRO has successfully advised and financed several leading financial sponsors in Europe on landmark transactions such as the Wind acquisition in Italy (at the time the second largest LBO ever executed) and the acquisitions of VNU and NXP in the Netherlands. We have the product capability and client intimacy in Asia to replicate our success in Europe.ö

His new position will require close interaction with Manoj Agarwal, executive director at ABN, who heads up mergers and acquisitions/equity capital markets origination for financial sponsors. Additionally, the Hong Kong-based Agarwal leads origination for the energy and resources sectors.

Boekema brings 14 years of experience that includes mergers and acquisitions advisory and equity capital markets. He first joined the firm in the Rotterdam-based global clients group in 1992 and has spent the last eight years in numerous M&A advisory positions in Europe.
