Standard Chartered has created a renminbi coverage team that will give clients advice across a wide spectrum of products, ranging from transaction banking, hedging, foreign exchange and debt capital markets.

The team consists of Carmen Ling, global head, renminbi solutions, origination and client coverage; Caroline Owen, regional head of renminbi solutions, Americas; Alexandra Gropp, regional head of renminbi solutions, Europe; and Lisa O’Connor, director, renminbi solutions.

Ling, who has joined the bank from Citi, is leading the team. She is based in Hong Kong and reports to Darcy Lai, regional head of origination and client coverage, Northeast Asia. At Citi, Ling held a number of senior positions and was most recently head of global transaction services, Hong Kong.

The other external hire is O'Connor, who joined Standard Chartered from financial services provider SWIFT, where she was the initiative director for renminbi internationalisation and responsible for SWIFT’s global renminbi strategy. She is also based in Hong Kong and reports to Ling.

The other two members - Owen and Gropp - are existing Standard Chartered bankers who have reshuffled roles. Owen is based in New York and reports to Jeremy Bollington, head of origination and client coverage, Americas. Prior to this, Owen was the head of debt capital markets North America at Standard Chartered.

According to a statement, Owen has led transactions for issuers such as McDonald’s, Caterpillar Financial and the International Finance Corporation.

Before joining Standard Chartered Bank, Owen worked in a variety of capital markets roles with major investment banks in New York, London and Sydney.

Gropp is based in London and reports to Tarek Anwar, head of origination and client coverage, Europe.

Prior to taking over her recent role, Gropp held different roles in the bank’s capital markets team, including the origination and execution of dim sum bonds, and Asian local currency bonds for European clients.
