StanChart hires Philip Tulk from RBS

Standard Chartered continues to strengthen its equity research capabilities with the appointment of gaming analyst Philip Tulk.

Standard Chartered has appointed Philip Tulk as a conglomerates, hotels and gaming analyst. He is based in Hong Kong and reports jointly to John Chan, head of Hong Kong and China property, conglomerates and gaming research, and to Erwin Sanft, head of Hong Kong and China equity research.

In this role, Tulk will be responsible for covering the Greater China gaming and hotels sector. He will also work closely with Chan to provide a strategic view of Hong Kong conglomerates.

“[Tulk’s] addition to the team demonstrates our commitment to delivering a compelling research value proposition to our clients. I look forward to his contribution as we continue to deliver on our Hong Kong and China franchise ambitions,” said Sanft in a statement.

Tulk joins from Royal Bank of Scotland, where he was head of Asian conglomerates and gaming research. He has more than 15 years of sell-side experience, having previously worked at Lehman Brothers, DBS and HSBC.

Tulk’s appointment follows other recent hires at Standard Chartered’s investment banking research division.

Sanft joined in January from BNP Paribas, where he was chief strategist for Asian equities. At Standard Chartered, he reports to Dave Murray, head of equity research. Last month, the bank recruited Petter Sternby to be head of its Southeast Asia financial institutions strategic coverage and Sumit Choudhary for a newly created role as head of emerging companies research in India.
