Alvarez & Marsal, a US business advisory firm specialising in turnaround management, has relocated managing director Jacques Roizen from New York to Hong Kong.

During his 10 years with A&M’s New York office, Roizen founded and was co-head of the revenue enhancement practice, which he subsequently helped to establish in Europe, and was responsible for the resurgence of a number of brands while serving clients in advisory and interim management roles.

He is a specialist in boosting revenue through marketing, sales, human resources and other disciplines.

“With the rapid growth and increasing sophistication of domestic consumer markets across Asia over the past few years, coupled with recent macroeconomic slowdowns, many of our private equity and corporate clients are seeking assistance in developing capabilities across their businesses to reinvigorate growth and improve margins,” said Oliver Stratton, managing director and co-head of A&M Asia. “Also, in the industrial sector, efficient and effective sales force operations are becoming increasingly critical.”

Before joining A&M, Roizen worked with McKinsey & Company, where he was part of the retail and consumer packaged goods practices. He started his professional career in the apparel industry, working across Europe, Asia and North America.

“Across the region, particularly in China, we are increasingly seeing strong companies that are struggling to sustain historical levels of growth; with that comes the requirement for greater focus on performance improvement in sales and marketing. Jacques’ first-hand experience as a chief marketing officer, where he has implemented R&D, marketing and sales force effectiveness programs to drive top line growth of struggling brands, returning them to success, is highly relevant to our clients in Asia,” said Jim Dubow, managing director and co-head of A&M Asia.

In his 20-year career Roizen has worked with leading international corporates and private equity firms across various industries, including consumer products, retail, apparel and telecoms.

Roizen’s roles with A&M have included working with Primus Canada, a large telecommunications operator; a JDS Uniphase ComTest division in Hong Kong, where he revamped the company’s Asia-Pacific organisation; and Interstate Bakeries, the biggest US wholesale bread and cake distributor, where he led the successful re-launch of Wonderbread and Hostess brands.

A French national, Roizen has a law degree from the University of Paris-Sorbonne and an MBA from Columbia University.

A&M has been operating in Asia since 2003 and has offices in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing as well as Mumbai, with close to 40 professionals across the region. The firm opened in Beijing in March 2012.
