AsianInvestor hires journalist to cover alternative investments

New hire will support the magazine as it moves to a monthly format.

AsianInvestor magazine is pleased to announce Simon Osborne is joining the magazine as senior reporter to cover alternative investments. The rapid development of the Asian hedge fund community, as well as the increasing appeal among global portfolio managers to structure Asia- and Japan-focused hedge fund strategies, makes this one of the most exciting and vital areas of the magazine's coverage.

Osborne will report on hedge funds, funds of funds and their service providers, as well as continue AsianInvestor's coverage of private equity, real estate, commodities and other alternative asset classes.

Osborne is relocating to Hong Kong in order to join AsianInvestor. He has been a journalist in Bangkok since 2002, covering finance, business and political stories for United Press International, the Washington Post, and the BBC.

Before moving into journalism, he built a career in investment banking in Southeast Asia, including serving as Lehman Brother's head of credit for Asia ex-Japan from 1996 to 2001, leading a team of analysts, recovering distressed exposures and responsible for risk approval for capital market and investment banking departments.

He has also served as a credit portfolio manager in Asia for CSFB and as a consultant to Bangkok-based Seamico Securities' investment banking unit. He speaks Thai and Indonesian. Osborne got his start in his native UK with stints at National Westminster Bank and NM Rothschild & Sons.
