First State adds HK portfolio managers

First State Investments (Hong Kong) has pinched fund managers from Invesco and Value Partners to augment its Asian equities and China team in Hong Kong.

Martin Lau is now senior portfolio manager for Asian equities and will be running the firm's Hong Kong and Greater China funds, the Asia Innovation and Technology Fund and other funds with North Asian exposure. Lau has spent the past six years as a money manager at Invesco, running its Greater China fund as well as small-cap and regional portfolios. Lau is a CFA and holds a master's degree in engineering from Cambridge University.

An Invesco spokesman says Lau's responsibilities are being assumed by existing staff and no replacement will be made.

The other hire is Jeren Kei, who joins as associate portfolio manager on the China team. She comes from Value Partners, where she had been responsible for China equities market research, especially B shares. A Chinese national, Kei received an MBA from the Kelly School of Business at Indiana University.
