Nine new analysts for CSFB

The investment bank appoints nine new analysts to expand coverage of Greater China and Korea.

The bank has announced nine new hires across the technology, small cap and industrial sectors as well as the appointment of Mehdee Reza as product manager to develop CSFB's equity research products across the region. Reza already works for CSFB as head of regional banks research and in his new role will identify new research ideas alongside the research and equity sales teams.

Five of the new research appointments have been made in Taiwan. Frank Wang joins as a vice president covering the upstream technology sector. Prior to CSFB, he worked for Grand Capital group, a VC company specialising in technology start-ups, which he co-founded. Before this, he was with SSB Citi Global Asset Management and Goldman Sachs in the US.

Alison Yip joins as an associate covering Taiwanese handset and component companies. Prior to CSFB, she covered the downstream technology sector for CLSA. In her new Hong Kong-based role, she will also assist Ashis Kumar, head of technology research for non-Japan Asia.

Also joining as an associate in Hong Kong is Johnny Chen, who will assist Kumar with technology strategy research. Before CSFB he was an associate with Stern Stewart.

Based in Taiwan, Vicky Twu has been appointed as an associate covering TFT LCD and optical storage companies. She was most recently covering TFT LCD for BNP Paribas Peregrine.

The final Taiwanese appointment is Wanli Wang, who becomes an associate covering the motherboard and networking sectors. Wang began his career working for Intel and the Taiwan Institute for Information Industry before joining BNP Paribas Peregrine as a technology analyst.

In Hong Kong, CSFB has also hired Jerry Lu as a vice president responsible for the Chinese technology and auto sectors. Lu joins from CLSA where he was a senior investment analyst for China technology and media stocks.

Simon Cheng has also been hired from CLSA and joins as an associate responsible for small cap agro foods, materials and utilities companies. He too will be based in Hong Kong.

In Korea Sokje Lee has been appointed as an associate covering the auto, shipbuilding and airlines sectors. He joins from HSBC where he covered the Korean auto sector and heavy industries. He has also previously worked for McKinsey Consulting and the Korea Long Term Credit Bank.

Finally in India, Anupam Thareja has been appointed vice president responsible for Indian IT services and auto sectors. He joins from ABN AMRO where he covered the Indian auto and telecom sectors.
