HSBC has appointed Jason Tan as its new regional head of client management for Asia-Pacific, part of its global payments and cash management business. Tan replaces Natasha Patel who has relocated to the Middle East to lead HSBC’s cash management business.
“In today’s market, clients are looking for more than products and services from their financial providers, and are placing increasing importance on receiving a strong and consistent client experience,” said Marcus Treacher, global head of client experience for global payments and cash management at HSBC, in a statement. “Jason’s extensive banking experience will be a valuable addition to HSBC’s existing client management proposition and evidences our commitment to excellence in client service.”
In his new role, Tan will be responsible for continuing to develop HSBC’s client management platform. He reports directly to John Laurens, HSBC’s Asia-Pacific head of global payments and cash management, and functionally to Treacher.
“Investment in our client management team is at the core of our aggressive growth strategy and underpins our commitment to delivering high quality service to our clients,” said Laurens in a statement. “Jason’s previous roles in sales and product management, combined with his leadership of our Malaysian cash management business, bring a wealth of experience to our client implementation and servicing platforms.”
Tan relocates to Hong Kong for this new role from Malaysia where he was the head of global payments and cash management for HSBC’s Malaysian franchise for three years. He has also previously been HSBC’s head of product management for global payments and cash management in Thailand, and head of sales for global payments and cash management in Malaysia.
HSBC has built up its global payments and cash management business with newly created roles this year, starting with the appointment of Shayan Hazir as its new Asia-Pacific head of business banking in mid-February. At the end of March, HSBC appointed Thomas Schickler to the newly-created position of global head of liquidity. Both positions are held within the bank’s global payments and cash management business.
According to a spokesperson for the bank, a replacement for Tan’s most recent role in Malaysia will be announced soon.
