BNP Paribas has appointed Thierry Josz as its new head of global trade solutions (GTS), effective immediately. Based in Brussels and managing a 300-strong GTS franchise, Josz replaces Jean-Paul Riolacci who has been appointed head of capital and credit management for global transaction banking. Josz and Riolacci will both report to Pierre Veyres, head of global transaction banking.

Josz will also head up the bank’s GTS competence centre.

The move is part of BNP Paribas’ expansion of its transaction banking business. Specifically, Josz will be responsible for the GTB capital allocation and credit portfolio. He will also manage the validation of new products from a credit standpoint and represent GTB in internal head-office credit committees. Overall, he will ensure quality of underwriting across regions and geographies and help develop group strategy.

“We are confident Thierry will bring the business to the next level and contribute significantly to the development of the corporate franchise of BNP Paribas Group,” said Pierre Veyres.

“Global trade solutions’ goal is to expand in a very dynamic market across products and regions. In the meantime, we are confident that our product expertise combined with our superb execution capabilities, leading market position and the strength of BNP Paribas Group will allow us to emerge in an even stronger position from the competitive field, at a time when some banks are trying to refocus on real economy businesses.”

“Thierry’s appointment will also reinforce our leading position across the regions. [He will] help BNP enhance business partnerships with local champions as well as multinational companies in the key Asia-Pacific region, regarding business both to and from Asia-Pacific,” said Veyres.
