UBS adds five to Singapore private banking team

UBS announces a slew of hires for its Singapore team as it continues to build its wealth management franchise.

UBS has hired three private bankers from Credit Suisse and two from DBS as it seeks to strengthen its presence in Asia, which it describes as a regional hub for wealth management. The five hires will all be based in Singapore.

Gary Goh has joined UBS as executive director and desk head. Goh has more than 13 years of experience in global private banking, covering Asia-Pacific, Middle Eastern and European high-net-worth individuals, families and corporations. He joins UBS from Credit Suisse, where he was team leader and senior relationship manager. He has also worked with Citi private banking in Singapore, London and Geneva.

UBS has also poached Yvonne Koh and Loh Swee Sung from Credit Suisse. Koh joins as a director and client adviser. She was a vice-president of private banking in the Singapore team at Credit Suisse. She started her career at Arthur Andersen and has also worked for Overseas Union Bank, Maybank and Standard Chartered. Loh joins UBS as an associate director and client adviser. She was most recently a senior assistant relationship manager with Credit Suisse and has also worked at Citi and ABN Amro.

Also joining at the level of executive director is Tan Yeu Cheng, who will be a cluster head. Tan has 21 years of experience at DBS across both private banking and investment banking. She was most recently a senior vice-president and team leader. Wendy Toh also joins from DBS and will take on the role of associate director and client adviser. She was previously an associate director looking after Singapore clients and has also worked at HSBC.

"We believe that Singapore is a key centre of growth for wealth management, both domestically and as a hub for the region,” Peter Kok, regional market manager at UBS wealth management, said in a written statement. “These new appointments to the Singapore team will further strengthen UBS’s client coverage for Singapore and demonstrate our ongoing commitment to develop our attractive franchise through the selective addition of talent.”

Goh, Koh and Loh started at UBS on December 1. Toh’s appointment was effective December 3. Tan joined on 15 November. All five report to Eddie Gan, the bank's country team head for Singapore.
