HSBC announced yesterday a series of new appointments across its equity business within global markets in Asia-Pacific to drive growth in the sector.

He will be jointly responsible for HSBC’s Indian equities business together with Haresh Shivdasani, a managing director and head of equities, and will report to Rakesh Patel, head of equity sales and trading for Asia-Pacific. Prior to joining HSBC, Patni was an executive director at J.P. Morgan India.

Gerardo Pablo has joined the bank as head of programme trading for Asia-Pacific. He moves across from BNP Paribas where he was head of global portfolio trading for Asia. Pablo will be responsible for managing and executing programme trading in the region. He reports to Gavin Williamson, head of execution trading for Asia-Pacific.

Alex Lupis has been appointed head of corporate access for Asia-Pacific. He will be responsible for managing and marketing HSBC’s Asia-Pacific corporate access products globally, and will report to Patel. Lupis was previously head of corporate marketing at Citi.

Based in Korea, Choi will be responsible for managing the distribution and sale of Korean equity products to institutional investors in Asia, the US and Europe. He reports to Chehee Han, the head of equities for Korea. Choi was previously a vice-president at Morgan Stanley.

Also joining the equity team as directors of equity sales in Singapore are Michael Gilmore and Sujit Sahgal. Gilmore most recently worked as managing principal at 3 Degrees Asset Management, and prior to that was a regional consumer and media analyst at UBS and Nomura. Sahgal served as an executive director at Bank Sarasin and was previously a regional tech/telecom analyst at UBS. They report to Roland Wee, head of equity sales, locally.

“We have hired over 30 members of staff to further strengthen our regional equities team across Asia,” said Gordon French, head of global markets for Asia-Pacific. “Underpinned by our new global equity trading platform, the team’s expertise in equity finance, along with its access to extensive research, position us as leaders within the equities market. The new appointments bring a wealth of experience and will further develop HSBC’s equity capabilities both regionally and globally.”
