Societe Generale appoints Todd Martin Asia equity strategist

French bank Societe Generale creates a new Asia equity strategist position and hires Todd Martin who used to work at CLSA to staff it.

Societe Generale corporate and investment banking has hired Todd Martin for a newly created position as Asia equity strategist based in Hong Kong.

Martin, who has already assumed his new role, will report to Glenn Maguire who is chief economist for Asia. Martin was most recently head of alternative trading strategies at brokerage firm CLSA. Before that, he worked with Morgan Stanley's absolute return and special situations group. Between 1996 and 2002 he was head of financial research at UBS and Deutsche Bank.

Martin is charged with generating micro and macro themes to formulate specific cash equity and indexation strategies. The appointment is part of SG's wider strategy to build out its global equity and flow franchise business in Asia-Pacific under Timothee Bousser, the bank said in a written statement. Bousser heads global equities and flow.

SG's cash equities platform, which is co-headed by Matthew Perry and Sander Elzinga, offers access to 60 markets worldwide and 25 Asia-Pacific exchanges.
