Macquarie hires James Wang for Hong Kong private wealth team

Wang joins from Clariden Leu to become part of the client advisory team.

Macquarie's Asian private wealth management business has hired James Wang from Swiss boutique private bank Clariden Leu.

Wang will be part of Macquarie's Hong Kong-based client advisory team. He joins as a senior client adviser. At Clariden Leu, Wang was a director and head of China. Wang has also worked at UBS in Hong Kong and the United States, and at Morgan Stanley in the US.

"Attracting quality staff to both our Hong Kong and Singapore operations continues to be a major focus and we look forward to bringing more new members into the team in the near future," Joseph Poon, head of Macquarie private wealth in Asia, said in a written statement commenting on the hire.

In the same statement Wang said the unique institutional products Macquarie offers, as well as the access to the resources of the broader Macquarie group, such as research and deal flow, had attracted him to join the Sydney-headquartered firm.

A Macquarie spokesperson said that the Asia team is growing, however the firm could not share details of how many staff it has in Hong Kong or what the assets under management currently are.

Macquarie's private wealth services in Hong Kong are provided by Macquarie Funds Management Hong Kong.
