Merrill strengthens Greater China research team

Three new analysts, one a former fund manager, move to Merrill Lynch to conduct research with a China focus.

Bank of America-Merrill Lynch has added three new hires to its Greater China research team, namely Thomas Wong, Angello Chan and Frank Zhang.

Wong will be the head of Asia-Pacific energy equity research and will specialise in oil stocks in China and Japan. In his previous job, Wong was a fund manager with an energy focus at Och Ziff Capital Fund Management Group. Before that, he was head of oil research at UBS. Wong has also covered Chinese and Korean oil companies for J.P. Morgan; and he started his career in energy with BP, where he was a strategy analyst and finance manager.

Chan will be the head of Asia ex-Japan utilities research. He has previously covered utilities at Credit Suisse, Lehman Brothers and Morgan Stanley. He has an MBA from the University of New South Wales and a BSc from Imperial College, London.   

Zhang will be the head of Greater China metals and mining research. Before joining Merrill he covered metals and mining at J.P. Morgan for four years. He has worked as an analyst at CLSA and Morgan Stanley.
