Puff adds power to Shearman & Sterling

The law firm strengthens its M&A capabilities in Asia by adding Gregory Puff as partner.
Shearman & Sterling has boosted its M&A capabilities in the region by hiring Gregory Puff as a partner based in Hong Kong.

The global law firm said yesterday that it has poached Gregory Puff from OÆMelveny & Myers where he was most recently partner and head of M&A for Asia. Puff previously worked at Shearman & Sterling from 1993 until 2002 and now rejoins the firm.

The move adds strength to ShearmanÆs M&A capabilities in China, Japan and throughout Asia, as Puff brings to the firm a strong roster of experience in the region. He has also worked in New York, London and Tokyo.

Puff has experience working on public and private mergers and hostile transactions, stock and asset purchases, and joint ventures. His clients have included multinational corporations and global investment and commercial banks. Notable clients are Mindray Medical International, eMobile and MSK Corporation and he also worked on the construction of JapanÆs first shareholder-approved hostile takeover defence plan (poison pill) for eAccess.

At Shearman & Sterling, Puff joins an M&A team led by China managing partner Lee Edwards, which includes Paul Strecker in Hong Kong and Masahisa Ikeda and Kenneth Lebrun in Tokyo.
