Citi shuffles country head cards

Citi appoints new country heads for Thailand and Indonesia.
Citi has appointed Peter Eliot as Citi country officer (CCO) and head of markets and banking in Thailand. He leaves his post as CCO for Indonesia and has been replaced by Shariq Mukhtar.

Insiders say that Eliot requested the move to Thailand, seeking a new challenge in a country that has never quite managed to live up to its potential. Eliot has spent 24 years with Citi in a number of senior management positions, most recently in Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore.

Prior to his assignments in Asia, Eliot spent 10 years with Citi in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, including senior roles in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Hungary. He is taking over the responsibility for the overall businesses of Citi in Thailand from Gary Newman, who has relocated to Australia to take on a senior role within CitiÆs markets and banking business.

Mukhtar, who is taking over the management of business in Indonesia, is also a veteran of the firm -- he has spent 22 years with Citi in a number of senior management positions, including roles in Taiwan and Thailand. He moved to Indonesia as country business manager of the global consumer group in September 2005.
