HSBC fills key TMT role in Asia-Pacific

HSBC has hired Sandeep Singh to develop the company’s client coverage in technology, media and telecoms.

HSBC has appointed Sandeep Singh as a managing director to lead and develop technology, media and telecoms (TMT) client coverage in Asia-Pacific, according to an internal memo seen by FinanceAsia.

Singh will be based in Hong Kong and report to Rajeev Sahney, head of the corporate sector group Asia-Pacific. He will work closely with the global TMT team and country partners around the world.

Singh joins from Nomura, where his most recent role was co-head of corporate finance (Asia ex-Japan). Prior to that, he was head of TMT investment banking with the same firm. Singh also worked as a managing director in the TMT team at Citi.

“The bank has been looking for the right person for the vacancy for a long time,” said a source familiar with the situation.

Asia is becoming a more important capital market for TMT companies from economies supporting technology manufacturing industries, including mainland China, Taiwan and Korea.

For example, Hong Kong have seen several sizable TMT listings during 2013, such as the $206 million float of Forgame, China's largest developer of internet games, and the $127 million IPO of Shenzhen-based mobile games developer Boyaa Interactive.
