Clifford Chance names four partners in Asia

The promotions are part of a global exercise which sees 38 of the firmÆs lawyers elevated to partner status.
Clifford Chance has promoted four of its lawyers in Asia to partners in recognition of the regionÆs growing importance to the firm. Globally, the round of promotions, which becomes effective next month, elevates no fewer than 38 lawyers to partner status.

The new partners represent all practice areas within the firm and hail from 13 of its worldwide offices.

ôThe breadth of these appointments reflects our strength across practices and products and demonstrates our ability to deliver high quality service to our clients on a local, regional and global level,ö says David Childs, the firmÆs managing partner.

The new Asian partners are Cao Yanping in Shanghai, David Poureshagh and David Wilson in Tokyo, and James Wadham in Hong Kong.

Cao is a specialist within mergers & acquisitions, securities offerings, private equity and venture capital financing. After six years in New York and Silicon Valley, she returned to China in 2003. Among other things, she worked on the first renminbi bond offering by an international development bank in China.

Having previously worked in the firmÆs London, Hong Kong and New York offices, Poureshagh specialises in debt and equity capital markets, including convertible bonds, warrants and subordinated debt offerings; EMTN commercial paper and asset-backed programmes; securitisations and other structured debt transactions. He has worked on several innovative transactions, including the convertible bond issue by Livedoor in connection with its take-over bid for Nippon Broadcasting Systems and advised Trade and Development Bank of Mongolia on the first Mongolian euro medium-term note (EMTN) programme and bond issue.

As a veteran employee who has been serving the firm over 12 years, Wilson specialises in finance and lending and has significant experience within including leveraged and acquisition finance across Asia. He has worked in the firm's leading offices, including Hong Kong, London, Singapore and Tokyo and as in-house counsel for various investment banks. Wilson worked on the acquisition of Vodafone KK by Softbank in Japan.

Wadham has extensive experience in commercial litigation, with a prime focus on contentious regulatory work. He has advised on various major, complicated commercial disputes and regulatory matters. He recently advised the liquidators of a Hong Kong-listed company on entering a substantial audit negligence claim, and also works with financial institutions on internal as well as regulatory investigations.

ôWith 54 partners now in Asia the firm is committed to the region. These appointments are a key part of the firm's plan to grow what is already independently recognised as a leading pan-Asia business in the legal services sector,ö says Jim Baird, regional managing partner of the firm.
