First derivatives headhunter opens shop in HK

The specialist search boutique will be the first in Asia to focus exclusively on derivatives.
A new search consultancy has set up shop in Asia to help investment banks find derivatives talent. Capital Markets Intelligence is a breakaway from Pelham Search Pacific, the leading headhunter in AsiaÆs derivatives and structured products area.

The new firmÆs managing director is Dania Falle, one of PelhamÆs top-ranked consultants, and its head of research is John Primrose, previously head of research at Pelham. They will be joined in Hong Kong by a senior banker in the second quarter. At the same time, another senior banker will establish a presence in Tokyo.

Capital Markets Intelligence is the first search boutique in Asia to focus exclusively on the derivatives market û all three of the consultants are ex-financial markets professionals with backgrounds in derivatives. Falle worked for seven years as a derivatives structurer at Morgan Stanley and was a derivatives lawyer at Allen & Overy before that.

The hunt for derivatives talent has never been greater, as investment banks gear up their derivatives teams to take advantage of the marketÆs growth. Sales teams targeting consumer banks and private banks are already well-staffed, according to Falle, but competition is fierce for salespeople focused on corporates, pension funds, insurers and any other organisation that may consider buying derivatives-based products. On the trading side, traders with experience in exotics are most in demand.
