Paul Hastings hires M&A lawyer

The firm names Basil Hwang as partner in its corporate department.
Global law firm Paul Hastings has lured Basil Hwang from rival firm OÆMelveny & Myers to its Hong Kong corporate department. He arrives at the firm as partner and will continue to focus his practice on mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions and securities offerings.

Throughout his career, Hwang has advised investment funds and company clients on dozens of private equity transactions and acquisitions in Greater China. Most recently, he was involved in the $120 million acquisition of 3721.com by Yahoo!.

He has also advised clients on numerous high-profile securities offerings, including Nasdaq, Hong Kong and Singapore listings; Rule 144a equity and debt offerings; and listed Eurobond offerings. In this area, HwangÆs expertise has included representing Shanda Interactive Entertainment in its highly successful Nasdaq IPO.

Hwang's arrival at Paul Hastings represents the latest addition to its fast-growing corporate department in Hong Kong. In May, the firm named Joe Sevack as partner in this practice.

Hwang is admitted as an advocate and solicitor in Singapore, a solicitor in England and Wales and as a solicitor in Hong Kong.
