Goldman Sachs said on Monday it has named Prachi Mishra as a managing director and chief India economist. She will be based in Mumbai.
Prior to joining Goldman, Mishra was the deputy division chief of the Western Hemisphere Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Previously, she was the head of the Strategic Research Unit at the Reserve Bank of India. Prior to that, she worked as a senior economist at both the IMF and the Government of India’s Ministry of Finance.
Mishra earned a PhD and an M.Phil. in economics from Columbia University. She also earned an MA and a BA in Economics from the University of Delhi.
The New York-headquartered investment bank has been active in India since the early 1990s and established an onshore presence in India in December 2006 following a ten-year joint venture.
Goldman is also an active investor in India, deploying more than $3.4 billion in capital since 2006.
