UBS names Yeoh head of Asean equities

The veteran sales trader is taking on a broader role to cover the Swiss bank’s equities business in Southeast Asia.

Long-serving sales trader Choo-Guan Yeoh has been named by UBS as its head of Asean equities, a newly-created position that oversees the Swiss bank’s equities franchise in Southeast Asia.

Yeoh’s appointment was effective June 29, according to an internal memo seen by FinanceAsia.

She will report to Taichi Takahashi, head of Asia-Pacific equities, and will be a member of the UBS APAC Equities Management Committee.

The appointment means Yeoh has taken on extra jurisdictions compared with her previous role as head of equities in Singapore and Malaysia.

She will retain her role as head of Asean client trading & execution.

Yeoh will be responsible for all aspects of the profitability and development of UBS's Asean equities franchise in partnership with regional equities management and staff across the group, according to the memo. She will cover both cash equities and equity research.

Yeoh joined UBS in 2001 as a sales trader in Singapore and has since worked at various client-facing roles in Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, and India.

During her time in China and Hong Kong, she spearheaded UBS’s expansion into A-share trading. UBS was the first foreign bank to offer clients trading in mainland Chinese equities.
