Barclays adds two to global trade and working capital team

The British bank builds on its transaction banking business with two new appointments.

Barclays has appointed Ray Zabarte as global head of trade and working capital product management, and Adrian Ow as head of risk-weighted asset (RWA) optimisation, trade and working capital. Both positions are within the bank’s expanding trade and working capital team.

Zabarte joins Barclays from Standard Chartered where he was most recently global head of receivables and local corporate product management. During his time at Standard Chartered, Zabarte also held roles covering trade product development, documentary trade and supply chain finance as well as payments and collections in the cash management business. In his new role at Barclays, Zabarte will be responsible for product development and product management activities across the trade and working capital business.

Ow has been appointed to a newly created role of head of RWA optimisation, trade and working capital. In this role, Ow will lead a team to optimise RWA across trade and working capital products and transactions, assessing the impact of new business initiatives and co-ordinating data collection and regulatory approval efforts for new trade and working capital products.

Based in Singapore, Ow also joins Barclays from Standard Chartered where he was responsible for global transaction banking capital management strategy. Prior to this, Ow worked at Accenture financial services helping Asian banks comply with Basel II requirements.

“Growing our trade and working capital capabilities is key to our long-term corporate banking strategy and the knowledge and experience that both Ray and Adrian bring with them will ensure our clients continue to get the right product solutions to suit their business needs,” said Tan Kah Chye, head of trade and working capital at Barclays in a statement.

The new hires follow a number of new appointments during the last 12 months. These include the poaching of Tan Kah Chye himself from Standard Chartered in May of this year as well as the appointments of Carman Lee as relationship director of multinational corporations for North Asia, and Garth Hughes as director multinational corporates – Asia.
