Mandates and payments roundup, August 23

Citi continues to expand its branch network in China, while the Agricultural Bank of China and ME Bank award mandates to service providers.

Citi opens two further sub-branches in China

Following last week’s opening of a sub-branch in Shanghai, Citibank (China) has opened two new sub-branches in Guangzhou and Shenzhen. The new smart banking branch in Guangzhou is Citi’s third consumer outlet in the province.

“We are committed to extending our presence around China,” said Simon Chow, country business manager at Citibank China. “We hope and expect this smart banking outlet will be well received in the local market as it delivers innovative new means by which retail customers can conduct their banking business with optimal convenience.”

The innovative services offered at Citi’s smart banking branches include Citi Explore, Connect and Assist services. This is in addition to Citibank and Citigold services and complementary use of mobile phones and access to internet kiosks.

Agricultural Bank of China awards mandate to NCR

US-based technology company, NCR Corporation, has won its largest automated teller machine (ATM) contract in China from the Agricultural Bank of China (ABC). Under the mandate, NCR will provide hardware maintenance services for around 10,000 ABC ATMs. At the end of last year, ABC had more than 54,000 cash-related self-service banking facilities in the country.

“China is one of NCR’s most important emerging markets and we have made significant investments in the region to deliver innovative hardware with robust software and services solutions,” said Gary Miao, president of NCR for Greater China. “Higher ATM availability is becoming more important for local Chinese banks as they differentiate on services. We expect more banks will shift to original ATM hardware vendors for service maintenance to drive higher availability.”

GFG Group wins card management mandate from ME Bank

Australia’s ME Bank has implemented new card management software from New Zealand-based GFG Group. The software, called Cadencie, will support the launch of ME Bank’s new flagship EveryDay Transaction Account product.

“Cadencie will allow ME Bank to deploy new products faster to market and enhance the features available in existing products and deliver on our goal of giving our customers better services and better value banking,” said Shane Kuret, general manager of IT at ME Bank.

ME Bank plans to leverage Cadencie’s platform to launch several new card products for both corporate and individual customers this year.
