Nomura hires Asia-Pacific equity derivatives trading head

Jean El Khoury is flying in from Deutsche Bank in New York to head Nomura’s equity derivatives trading desk in Hong Kong.

Nomura has hired Jean El Khoury to take up the position of head of equity derivatives trading for Asia-Pacific, based in the Japanese investment bank’s Hong Kong office.

El Khoury previously worked at Deutsche Bank in New York where he was co-head of equity derivatives trading for North America. The position he is taking at Nomura has been vacant since Hugh Murray left the bank in April 2010. Arnaud Bastit, head of equity trading for Asia-Pacific, has been covering the area in the interim, according to a spokesperson at the bank.

In a press release, Bastit said that hiring El Khoury is part of a continued strategy to strengthen the bank's equities division. “Expanding our derivatives business and developing a best-in-class trading platform are crucial steps in establishing Nomura as a leading equities house in Asia-Pacific and globally,” he said.

El Khoury, who will report to Bastit, has 15 years of experience in equity derivatives trading, including spells at Morgan Stanley in New York and J.P. Morgan in London.
