Deutsche Bank appoints new head of Asia-Pacific equity research

Guy Ashton changes focus from Europe and the Middle East to Asia-Pacific û a region which Deutsche Bank expects will be the world's fastest growing in the medium-term.

Deutsche Bank has announced the appointment of Guy Ashton as head of equity research for Asia-Pacific.

Ashton will take up the role with immediate effect and will be based in Hong Kong. He will report to David Folkerts-Landau, global head of research, and to Boon Chye Loh, head of global markets in Asia. Ashton replaces Tim Andrew, who has left the bank.

Ashton was previously Deutsche Bank's head of research for Europe, the Middle East and Africa and is a member of the global equity trading executive committee. Prior to joining Deutsche Bank in 2003, he was with HSBC, first as head of Asia research based in Hong Kong and later as head of European research.

In announcing the appointment, Folkerts-Landau said: "We believe that the Asia-Pacific region will remain the world's most dynamic and fastest-growing in the medium-term ahead. And we want to ensure that the region is home to some of our brightest global talent. Guy is ideally suited to lead our further research build-out in Asia, with years of experience heading major research divisions in both Europe and Asia."

Boon Chye Loh added: "Guy's appointment is further affirmation of the bank's commitment to delivering market leading research for our clients in Asia-Pacific. We continue to invest significant resources to deepen our coverage in the region where the bank is a major force in every market."

In June, Deutsche announced that it had appointed Jay Choi as a director and head of Korean equity research. As well as managing the bank's output of Korean equity research, Choi also acts as the Korea equity strategist.
