Skadden relocates real estate specialist to Asia

The law firm is also opening an office in Shanghai this month that will focus on corporate and real estate matters.
Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom has appointed Audrey Sokoloff to lead its real estate and investment finance practice in Asia-Pacific.

Sokoloff has been a partner since 1999. She has worked with the firm in New York, London, Los Angeles and San Francisco and is relocating to Tokyo soon.

Skadden's real estate and investment finance practice has been a beneficiary of the real estate development and investment boom in Asia. Alongside SokoloffÆs appointment the international law firm is also opening an office in Shanghai later this month to handle corporate and real estate matters. Skadden currently has more than 100 attorneys in the region and over the past couple of years it has been involved in some milestone deals such as the $5.4 billion IPO of China CITIC Bank and the $9.2 billion IPO of China Construction Bank.

Notable transactions in Japan include Morgan StanleyÆs $2.4 billion acquisition of 13 hotels from All Nippon Airways and Toshiba Corporation's $5.4 billion acquisition of Westinghouse Electric.

Sokoloff is a specialist in real estate, real estate finance and real estate private equity. She has worked with Deutsche Bank, UBS, Morgan Stanley, Nomura Securities, JP Morgan Chase and Merrill Lynch on the origination and securitisation of credit facilities and mezzanine financing for real estate debt and equity investments. She has also represented real estate private equity firms and funds such as Fortress Investment Group, Dune Capital, Dividend Capital and Colony Capital with regard to the establishment of funds, joint ventures and investments.

Currently based in New York, SokoloffÆs recent work includes the financing of Blackstone Group's $5.6 billion acquisition of Carr America Realty Trust, the financing of Bain Capital and The Catterton Group's $3.5 billion acquisition of Outback SteakhousesÆ parent, and numerous international hotel and casino construction financings.
