The venture capital firm hires Harish Gandhi from Bharti Airtel to focus on technology investing.
Venture capital firm Canaan Partners has appointed Harish Gandhi as executive director to be based in India.

Canaan Partners specialises in early-stage technology and life sciences companies. GandhiÆs focus will be on investments in technology.

Gandhi joins Canaan with hands-on experience in the industry. He was most recently the head of value added services business and the new product development team at Bharti Airtel, IndiaÆs largest mobile operator. Before that he was vice-president of business strategy and planning at Bharti Airtel and led the 3G effort for the Indian telecommunications player.

Gandhi earlier spent 12 years in the US in various engineering, product marketing and business development roles with telecom companies. He worked as director of marketing and technology at Nokia and as director of business development for Dilithium Networks (a telecom start-up).

Gandhi has an MBA from the Wharton Business School and a Masters in science from the University of Maryland. He has an undergraduate degree in engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay.

Canaan has $2.3 billion under management and a worldwide footprint with offices in California, Connecticut, India and Israel. Among its notable investments are: DoubleClick, an online advertising solution; Match.com, an online dating site; and Acme Packet, one of the top 10 performing IPOs of 2006.
