Landsbanki hires metals expert to boost Asia business

The Icelandic bank hires metals expert Alastair McIntyre to capitalise on rising commodity and metal prices and to help boost its trade finance operations in Asia.
IcelandÆs Landsbanki has appointed Alastair McIntyre as director of trade and commodity finance for Asia-Pacific.

In what is a new appointment, McIntyre has joined to help strengthen and expand the bankÆs trade finance and commodities operations in the region.

McIntyre spent the last six years in Hong Kong as head of marketing for ScotiaMocatta and Natixis commodity markets, where he developed new precious and base metals risk management products and services for Asian customers.

"This is a new position based on the growth aspirations of the bank. My focus is to look for trade financing deals broadly in commodities but also with a metals focus,ö says McIntyre about his new role.

ôOn the commodities side, there are a number of opportunities because to a great extent a lot of the metals or commodities that are being produced are also being consumed in Asia. This in itself provides greater financing opportunities for Asian companies, whether it's a gold mine in Laos, a copper smelter in China or a rice producer in Thailand."

McIntyre previously worked as part of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia/ScotiaMocatta strategic Alliance in Sydney, for the Bank of Nova Scotia in Toronto and the Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa. Prior to these positions, he worked as an underground mine geologist at Atlantic Canada.

LandsbankiÆs growth in recent years has been primarily organic, based upon smaller strategically acquired platforms in the UK, Ireland and continental Europe. With assets totalling Ç32.1 billion, it provides retail and corporate banking, investment banking, capital markets services, asset management and wealth management for private banking clients.
